Saint Michael's Hospice could not provide the quality of service we believe our patients deserve without the valuable support of over 400 volunteers. Volunteers are integrated into all aspects of the Hospice.
Supporting Patients.
Day Therapy: Driver’s help with patient transportation, Helpers work in the unit with the patients, and volunteer therapists provide massage, aromatherapy and reflexology.
In Patient Unit: Ward Receptionists and Helpers support the unit with a mix of clerical and patient related duties.
Housekeeping: Volunteers work in the kitchen, arrange flowers and provide afternoon teas.
Supporting the Hospice.
Volunteers also contribute to the day to day running of the hospice by working within our administration and fundraising departments.
Saint Michael's Hospice has four charity shops in Harrogate situated on Cold Bath Road, Leeds Road, King Edwards Drive and Starbeck High Street – run entirely by volunteers. Together with the fundraising volunteers who help with events, and street and store collections they raise a high percentage of the income for the hospice allowing us to continue the work.
All new volunteers complete an application form and attend an interview, followed by an induction into the Hospice and a detailed induction into the department where they are placed. Volunteers working in Crimple House also need to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check.
We are currently seeking volunteers to join one of our teams working in our shops or to join our fundraisers. We would also welcome enquiries from Hairdressers, Chiropodists and Complementary Therapists all of whom give whatever time they have available, which may be one session once or twice a month, or at longer intervals. We would also like to hear from anyone who could help promote our lottery in the Ripon area, where due to the success of the lottery, we require additional canvassers.
